Bio

With a sound that seamlessly blends the timeless elegance of jazz with the heart of musical theatre, Josh Thone is an award-winning performer and director whose work spans the Midwest and the East Coast. Originally from Appleton, Wisconsin, he has built a career that honors his Midwestern roots while making a mark on stages from Milwaukee to New York City.

Josh’s musical theatre career has taken him to some of the nation’s most prestigious venues, including New York City’s Lincoln Center, where he was a finalist in the 8th Annual NextGen Vocal Competition, and Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre, where he competed in the 2022 Jimmy Awards. His portrayal of Billy Cane in Bright Star led him to collaborate with Frogwater, a celebrated Midwest folk/acoustic/Celtic duo known for their dynamic musicianship and storytelling. That partnership soon extended beyond the stage, resulting in the writing and recording of his debut single at National Recording Studio in Milwaukee. Set for release on April 17, 2025, the track captures the warmth and authenticity of folk music while staying true to Josh’s theatrical roots.

A winner of multiple accolades, Josh has been recognized with a BroadwayWorld Award for Best Concert/Cabaret/Solo Performance, Best Leading Actor at the 2022 Center Stage Awards, and was named a Top 15 Finalist in BroadwayWorld’s Next On Stage Competition. He also won the Seth Rudetsky Matthew Morrison Sing-off Contest, further solidifying his place among emerging vocalists in the industry.

Beyond the stage, Josh is the Executive Director of Josh Thone and Company LLC, his own production company that has produced a series of sold-out ventures, including his direction of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. His ability to craft and produce compelling performances speaks to his vision as both an artist and a creative leader.

While his formal training includes time at Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts, Josh’s career has taken him far beyond the classroom. From intimate jazz lounges to Broadway-caliber competitions, he continues to forge a path uniquely his own—one steeped in artistry, authenticity, and an enduring passion for storytelling.
